From the Cleveland Museum of Art record

The shepherd and shepherdess gaze up toward a pair of angels who are announcing that Christ has been born. A dog is curled at their feet while sheep graze around them. This anonymous painter had a highly personal style recognized by its facial types, architectural forms, and a love of sumptuous textile patterns. He has been associated with other books of hours that were produced in and for the city of Troyes in France. Although we don't know the name of the artist, other leaves by the same individual have been identified in other collections.
