Seifū Yohei III was the first ceramist to be designated an Imperial Household Artist, a position that came with an annuity. He was tasked with producing items need by the imperial household to decorate the Meiji Palace and to present to state guests as gifts. There are subtle bamboo leaflike shapes on the interior of the sake cup.
