Mantel Clock

Gilt bronze became the principal material for making clock cases in France during the 1700s. The fine, intricate details in the bronze on this clock required a skilled craftsperson to execute. The craftsperson or craftspeople used a few different techniques to create the various decoration on the clock, from the low relief of the cherubs playing across the lower front, to the pierced semicircles around the case’s top.
