Antefix of a Satyr Carrying a Boy

Antefix with Silenos striding to the right and carrying Eros in a game of ephedrismos (piggyback). Silenos is nude except for boots and drapery that falls over his right thigh. He wraps his right arm around the left knee of the winged god, who faces front with his left hand on Silenos's right shoulder. Revealing his nude body, Eros holds up one end of a mantle, which stretches out behind him and is wrapped over his left forearm and right thigh. The bulbous object on a stalk at the silen's left shoulder is likely a thyrsus. Polychromy on the surface includes pink flesh, black-blue background, traces of red on the drapery, light blue on the wing of Eros, and white on the satyr's beard. The satyr's right eye is painted in black. This full-figure antefix was made in a mold nearly identical to that of 75.AD.97.
