Attic Black-Figure Cup Fragment

Fragment from the figured zone and lower part of a large band-cup. Exterior, battle scene, with parts of two warriors and a wheeling quadriga (four-horse chariot). On the left edge of the fragment, a warrior moves to left (part of his right elbow and body below the waist are preserved). He wears a cuirass over a short chiton, and has greaves on his legs. A small segment of his shield is also visible, and a curved white line is all that remains of his helmet crest. A second hoplite advances to the right (missing his head, neck, shoulders and right arm). He wears a short belted chiton, carries a round shield and a spear. Both warriors bear small incised curls on their thighs. At the right of the fragment, the quadriga, of which only parts of the head,chest and legs of the right-hand trace horse, and the necks and chest of the two pole horses, are preserved.
