Attic Black-Figure Volute Krater Fragment

One of two non-joining fragments from the krater's lip and the upper section of its neck. The topside of the mouth is reserved, with a red line on the outer edge. The inside of the neck is glazed, with a red line at the top of the neck, and another at a depth of 7.2 cm. The side of the lip is reserved, with a leftward meander between two glaze lines. This fragment preserves a departure scene. At left, a quadriga to right (mostly missing). Before the horses, an old man clothed in a himation, seated to left on a block. Behind him, a woman in chiton and himation stands to left, her hands in a gesture of greeting. Beside her, an old man in a himation standing to left, leaning on a staff. By his side, a youth walking to the left, with a cuirass cradled in his left arm. Behind him, a woman stands to left with her hands extended. On the right, an old man standing to left with a staff.
