After the deaths of her husband and son, Athaliah desired to become the sole ruler of the kingdom of Israel, and so she had all the other members of the line of King David murdered. However, her grandson Joash escaped the bloodbath, and after seven years of exile, was able to retake the throne and have his grandmother executed. Here his henchmen stab her viciously directly in front of him.
