Falcon-headed scarab

Falcon-headed scarab. The figure is finely detailed. The eyes are indicated. The small, curved beak is broken on the right side. The eyebrow ridges are pronounced, and below the eyes the ear coverts are stylised as a curved form with the tip pointing downwards. The falcon head wears a tripartite wig, with traces of gold inlay in the vertical recesses decorating it. The elytra are decorated with thin, vertical recesses and retain partially preserved gold inlay. The underside is covered with a layer of an indeterminate substance, possibly plaster, featuring a rectangular recess at the centre, perhaps indicating the position and shape of the tenon, now missing. Six legs were originally present, of which the middle and right hind legs are missing. The object rests on a modern lapis lazuli base. The object is made in the lost-wax technique for solid casts.
