Juste de Juste was an assistant to Rosso Fiorentino at the Royal Palace of Fontainebleau, built by Francis I. As implausable as the composition may be, the tension and dynamism of the figures reveal Juste de Juste's understanding of anatomy. These prints explore the human body as an expressive medium; they exemplify the eccentric styles that grew up at Fontainebleau in the artistic search for ever more elegant, exaggerated forms.
