The son of a clergyman, William White designed and remodeled many churches, as well as houses and other secular spaces. These candelabra were made for Bishops Court in Exeter, England, a house that had once served as the residence of the bishops of Exeter between the 1200s and 1500s. White not only remodeled the building’s architecture but also designed its exuberantly colorful interiors, including the furnishings.
