Shortly after its acquisition, this work was published as a model for an equestrian monument of Emperor Maximilian by Gregor Erhart, cast by one of Maximilian's bronze founders in Augsburg. Recent scholars have questioned the connection to Erhart and have placed it closer to Fanelli, due to the rendering of the horse's head and the waxy overall feel of the modeling. Related works in Braunschweig and (formerly) Berlin already carry attributions to a Fanelli model.
