As the sun sets on the thirty-seventh of fifty-two nights, Khujasta speaks with Tuti the talking parrot. The parrot begins to tell her a tale about the son of the Emir of Sistan, who became the servant of a snake. The story conveys a moral about the importance of companionship and devotion. Along with the parrot’s cage, Khujasta’s terrace pavilion contains a ewer and basin used for ablutions.
