Windy Landscape depicts the humble waterside retreat of an official retired from government service. For government officials, retreating from the city to a remote locale was the ideal retirement, though difficult to attain. In this scroll the retiree gazes out over the watery expanse past the sailboat to the mist-covered mountain in the far distance. The artist has achieved this depth of composition through carefully placed brushstrokes and ink washes.
