As one of the four symbols called "Four Gentlemen ( 四君子),” along plum blossoms, chrysanthemum, and orchids, bamboos represent strength, both physical and mental. This work is modern imitation of the famous 17th-century literati painter Yi Jeong known for his bamboo painting in ink. Yi's original work is the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art ( https://www.metmuseum.org/art/collection/search/50486 ).
