This wooden scabbard is carved from a single piece of hardwood. Its boat-shaped upper section is designed to accommodate the hilt of a kalis ( kris ) sword. The surface is smooth and undecorated, highlighting the natural grain of the wood. Narra wood (sometimes called “Philippine mahogany”) is costly and difficult to carve.
