This sturdy goblet, with its wide mouth, thick foot, and simplified decoration, was probably used for drinking beer and toasting. From the Middle Ages until the 1800s, many Europeans drank beer at breakfast, lunch, and dinner for its nourishing and healthy properties as well as for its taste. The Liechtenbergs, a Bohemian family who traced their nobility back to the 1200s, put their enameled arms on this goblet.
