Obverse: Nude boy rider holds reins in left hand and crowns his horse with his right; the horse stands facing left, with right foreleg raised. Below horse, inscribed: +ΙΛΩΚΡ/ΑΤΗΣ [HILOKRATHS]. Reverse: Taras astride a dolphin facing left, holding a distaff in his right hand and a kantharos in outstretched left hand. Behind him, to right, an owl. Inscribed below dolphin: TΑΡΑΣ [TARAS]. Taras is both the name of the city that minted this coin and of a legendary figure who was saved from drowning by a dolphin sent by his father, the god Poseidon.
