>And when [the lamb] had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony they held. >(Apocalypse 6:9) The souls of martyrs, those who died upholding the word of God, slowly emerge from beneath the altar and receive white robes from angels, who help to dress them.
