A colonel in the British Army, Willoughby Wallace Hooper photographed his surroundings extensively during his time in India. The prints in this album document the preparations and successful aftermath of an organized trophy hunt. Here a recently slain tiger has been arranged on a rock as if it were resting peacefully, while a number of men spy their intended prize from various locations in the background. Such staged scenes satisfied the eager market for images of exotic creatures and locales.
