A realistic portrait of a man of about fifty. The face is modeled with many creases and folds. The damaged nose is large and wide and the puffy eyes are set in deep sockets with crow's feet at the corners. The furrowed brow is drawn over the eyes and the downturned mouth is surrounded by deep crevices. The man has a jutting, fleshy chin and elongated ears. The top of the head is a sloping, roughly-worked plane, descending from the back of the head to the forehead where some traces of stucco are preserved. The hair at the side of the head is short and swept back from the forehead. The head has broken off just under the neck and little of chin survives. The back of the head is flat and roughly worked with a large rectangular cavity at the back of the neck, near which there is further evidence of stucco. The marble is gray and has taken on a slightly yellow patina.
