The eight scenes within this full-page miniature come from the lives of the Old Testament patriarchs Jacob and Joseph; they tell the Genesis story of Jacob's sons' second journey to Egypt to buy provisions. The narrative begins at the top left and proceeds down the left side of the miniature, then down the center, and finally down the right side. A number and a caption in French accompany each scene. For example, the caption for the first scene reads: *Ci dient li enfant a Iacob q[u]il leur covient mener Beniamin* (Here the sons of Jacob say that they must take [their youngest brother] Benjamin along).
