Marked by picturesque hills and oak groves, the region around Olevano, a wine-growing town east of Rome, was a favorite destination for German artists in the 1800s. Time and again, they depicted this magnificent scenery while enjoying the healthy air of the countryside. With fine pencil work, Victor Paul Mohn rendered the landscape's shadows and textures meticulously as well as sensitively. He described the colors of the scenery in the lengthy inscription. The draftsman was then traveling around Italy with Albert Venus, a fellow student at the Dresden Academy.
