Viewing stereographs was a popular hobby from the mid-1850s until after the First World War. Stereographic subjects varied widely from topographical and architectural views to still life and narrative subjects. Children's cards were particularly popular and hundreds of series of cards were issued. This card shows an optical device with various viewing instruments scattered around it.
