The opening of the seventh and final seal does not herald the end of humanity's sufferings. Instead, two angels distribute seven trumpets to seven angels. The blowing of the trumpets will bring more sorrow to those left on earth. In the miniature, the Lord sits within a mandorla on the arc of heaven poised above an orb representing the world. He blesses with his right hand while he holds a book in his left. The illuminator shows Saint John from the back, witnessing the event by looking through a door into the scene.
