As on all the calendar pages in the Stammheim Missal, a bust-length figure looks out at the viewer from the top of the page. Although he carries no identifying attributes, he may be the Roman god of war, Mars, for whom the month of March is named. With his right hand, he presents a circular diagram showing the hours of daylight and darkness in a typical day of the month. The two fish of Pisces are the zodiacal sign for the month.
