"I am involved with a kind of reality that transcends surface reality," Uelsmann once noted. "More than physical reality, it is emotional, irrational, intellectual, and psychological." Employing a complex technique of photomontage, Uelsmann combines multiple negatives garnered from the natural world to achieve an evocative artistic statement. Here a beach landscape, overlaid surreally with hands and an interior scene, becomes a subject for the contemplation of artistic discovery rather than of natural beauty.
