The last canon table page lists numerical references to those events recounted only in Saint John's Gospel. The eagle, symbol of John the Evangelist, holds a book in its claws as it perches under the large arch. Twisting its head to the left, it looks towards the ox, Saint Luke's symbol, on the facing page.
