Photograph of "The Virgin and Child with Saint John and Angels," also known as "The Manchester Madonna," an unfinished painting by Michelangelo Buonarroti. The painting depicts the Virgin Mary as seated in the center, while holding away a book from the reach of the Christ Child who stands in front of her. Saint John the Baptist, clothed in animal skin, can be seen next to him. Four more figures can be seen in the background, two of which are incompletely painted.
