Although previously identified as the physician Hippokrates, the unkempt beard, furrowed forehead, and arched eyebrow of this elderly man suggest that he is a philosopher or poet. He has an aged face with a furrowed brow, wrinkles around his eyes, and a full, wavy beard and moustache. Broken at the neck, the statue is a Roman work derived from a Greek original.
