Painted garlands of flowers, some suspended by tied ribbons, adorn the front and sides of this chest of drawers, or commode. An unknown craftsman silvered the scrolling molding and painted the top to simulate dark green marble. The curvilinear form, set on short curving legs with a carved foot, is typical of commodes from the mid-1700s that decorated the grand palaces of Venice.
