Scholars know very little about Russian photographer Dmitri Wasserman, who was active during the first decade of the 1900s. His portrait of Rasputin, made during the height of the notorious mystic and advisor's power over the Russian royal family, suggests that Wasserman may have worked either for a newspaper or for the royal family itself.
