Paintings by Evans are extremely rare and not widely known. This example strongly relates to Evans's photographs, most notably streetscapes from his series *Faulkner Country* , made in the late 1940s. The painting was a valuable addition to the Museum's collection of Evans's work (including more than one thousand prints), which, through its size, range, and quality, is a cornerstone of the photographs holdings. The very existence of Evans's painting demonstrates that photographers sometimes choose to give up their cameras to use traditional art materials.
