Obverse: Nude ephebe riding a horse, which stands to the right with its left foreleg raised. Below, a Θ [theta] is inscribed, probably a magistrate's mark. Reverse: Taras astride dolphin to left, with his right arm extended. Inscribed below the dolphin: TΑΡΑΣ [Taras], both the name of the city that minted this coin and of a legendary figure who was saved from drowning by a dolphin sent by his father, the god Poseidon.
