François-André Vincent followed a model path for a French painter: he was the son of a portraitist and miniaturist, François-Élie Vincent (1708–1790), and enrolled in the studio of the artist Joseph-Marie Vien (1716–1809) as a teenager. At twenty-two years old, he won the prestigious Prix de Rome scholarship, granting him the opportunity to study art in Rome at the French Academy in the Palazzo Ma
