Ronald Leslie Melville, the eleventh Earl of Leven and Melville, was an aristocratic amateur photographer and member of the Amateur Photographic Association, to which he was elected in 1866. Well-known in London as head of an Anglo-American banking house and director of the Bank of England, he pursued photography simply as a pleasurable pastime.
