The statuette is a miniature version of the colossal statue of Mars from the Forum of Nerva, which is today in the Capitoline Museum. The god stands in full armor, wearing a cuirass, crested helmet, and greaves. His right arm is upheld, but its implement is now missing. His left arm is lowered, with the palm held parallel to the ground. A cloak is wrapped across his upper right arm, crosses behind his back, and curls around his left forearm. His cuirass is decorated with confronted standing sphinxes, and a gorgoneion sits below his chin. His greaves also contain relief decoration.
