Attic Black-Figure Kyathos

Exterior: Animal combat watched by five males. In the center, two lions attack a bull, which collapses on its forelegs. A pair of standing youths, each clad in a long chiton and himation, flanks the animals. The youth of the left faces right, and the youth on the right stands to left. Behind the youth on the left (beside the handle), a male, in a short chiton, rushes up wielding a sword in his raised right arm. Behind the youth on the right, a naked youth escapes to right, looking back. To the right of him, next to the handle, another man to left, wearing a himation. Vines and leafy branches. There is a red line on the edge of the rim. Below the picture, a thin reserved line followed by a black zone above the foot. The cup is deep, black on the interior, with the lower part of its high strap handle preserved. The small torus foot is black on the exterior and underside, save for the resting surface, which is reserved. Adapted from Clark, A. CVA Malibu 2 (1990).
