In this image introducing the feast of the Ascension, Christ rises aloft effortlessly in a mandorla supported by angels, while below the Virgin Mary and the apostles look on in awe. Characteristic of Ottonian illumination, the figures in the image resemble actors in a religious drama. The Apostles are arranged in two simple groups to the left and right, differentiated only by the colors of their robes and halos.
