Although most of Florence Henri's work with still life and portraiture was accomplished in the studio, she also ventured into the Paris streets and along the banks of the Seine in search of subject matter. Here, the lack of sharpness makes the handrails seem only fanciful shapes, while she gives sharp attention to the gritty texture of the sloping pavement.
