"The Photographer of the Famous" is how Trude Fleischmann was known in her native Vienna. She had begun as an amateur at age nine after receiving a camera as a much longed-for Christmas gift. A portrait photographer for more than fifty years, Fleishmann's sitters included the sixteen-year-old actress Hedy Lamarr, conductor Arturo Toscanini, and architect Adolf Loos. Her Vienna studio became a gath
