The Egyptian ibis-headed god Thoth standing right, holding a long staff in his left hand and an ankh in his right; groundline. Egyptian deities were already appearing on Roman gems and rings by the first century A.D., as Pliny states (Naturalis Historia 33.41), and as is demonstrated by a carnelian ringstone depicting Anubis in an iron ring found at Pompeii.
