Tourists in the late 1800s enjoyed collecting stereographs as mementos of their travels. Decorated in various types of marble, and ornamented with elaborate carvings both inside and out, Charles Garnier's Paris Opera was the most opulent building erected during Napoleon III's reign. As such, it was a popular tourist destination and a highly suitable subject for a souvenir stereograph. Gift of Weston J. and Mary M. Naef
