The arm fragment is the arm from a life-size statue, and is associated with a hand fragment also in the Getty Museum’s collection (see 81.AA.178.2). The arm is bent at the elbow with the upper part originally held close and attached by dowels to the body of the statue. The arm and hand are fleshy and probably belong to a female figure. These two fragments are probably from the same statue, since the marble appears to be of the same type, the scale is the same and the workmanship appears to be by one hand.
