This green basket has pierced sides molded in imitation of canework. The arched handle simulates bound cane that has been wrapped with a gilt-edged ribbon. The records of the Sèvres Porcelain Manufactory show that in December 1757 the painter François Boucher was given a small green *panier* (basket), probably this very piece. Boucher, who produced many designs for the factory, was frequently rewarded with porcelain gifts.
