As the leader of the Heike clan, Taira Kiyomori (1118-1181) ruthlessly pursued political power in order to crush the Genji/Minamoto clan. In his later years, he began to have horrific visions in which he saw hundreds of skulls of his slayed enemies in the snowy garden of his villa.
