When Meryon etched this plate, the tower was being restored and was partly covered with scaffolding. The tower is situated at the point where the Pont-au-Change intersects with the Ile de la Cité. The massive structure dwarfs the teeming crowds on the bridge as well as the heavily laden barge under one of the arches. France, Europe
