The large bridge in the foreground is the Kyōbashi Bridge, and the one in the background, about a half mile farther on, is the Nihonbashi Bridge. Both appear on the Tōkaidō road that leads west to Kyoto, where a group of pilgrims is returning home from their several-days-long journey to Mount Ōyama. The north bank of the Kyōbashi River, in reality a canal, was occupied by a massive market that sold bamboo, an essential commodity for construction and decoration. Tall bamboo poles are lined up along the river beyond the next bridges. The impression at top is the second version of eight, with blue gradation in the sky and under the bridge.
