Ito_ Shinsui submitted his first landscape series, The Eight Views of Lake Biwa, to an exhibition in June of 1918. Seeing these images triggered Kawase Hasui’s interest in designing prints, and he approached Shinsui’s publisher, Watanabe Sho_zaburo_, with some landscape sketches of his own. Japan, Asia
