This hu vessel reflects a new decorative trend of the Warring States period, when inlay techniques were used to create intricate and lively designs. Its recessed geometric patterns were originally filled with copper and turquoise. Inlay involved inserting thin threads or foils of metal—such as gold, silver, or copper—into finely incised lines on the bronze surface. During the late Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods, artisans expanded their use of gold and silver, producing highly detailed vessels and accessories. China, Asia
