When the fashion for lavishly decorating interiors with porcelain arose around 1700, so-called garnitures were designed in sets of five or sometimes seven lidded jars and trumpet vases. They were used as display pieces on mantels or cabinets, but this later, large set served as decoration in a fireplace when it was not in use during the summer.
